New data from South Africa shows that although 97% of people had been exposed to covid or had been vaccinated or both, they still have a fifth wave in South Africa.
BA.4 and BA.5 are now being sequenced in Australia (NSW and WA), Europe and the USA, so the world is about to go through a fifth wave of covid19.
The good news is that the BA.4+BA.5 wave is less virulent than previous SARS-CoV2 variants, at least from what we can see happened in South Africa, where all other variants including BA.2 and BA.3 have essentially been banished.
