It seems one of the best protective measures to avoid severity to covid19 is to go outside and get some sunshine

We all know that vitamin D is protective against covid19 but researchers have now found that NIR (near infrared radiation) is also important too as it acts as an anti-oxidant. I cannot explain it better than in this video so just watch it.

Vitamin D is not enough.

The key point is that going outside helps you get vit. D, and NIR to build up melatonin levels which are important to generate anti-oxidants and help you sleep. I have known that sleep at night is important but this is more direct evidence in relation to covid19.

So we are rediscovering the wheel. The best protection against severity to covid19 is to lead a healthy lifestyle, but in particular to go outside during the daylight as much as possible. NIR passes through clothes and you do not have to be in direct sunlight to get it. In Victorian times we spent 50% of our time outside, but this has diminished to 7% nowadays. Furthermore, houses with new Low-E Glass do not allow NIR to enter inside. Also LED lights do not emit NIR where incandescent lights did.

Combine this with eating all the right foods, not just for their nutrients but also for good bacterial gut health. The latter is linked to a good functional immune system (to add reference later). Add to all of this some regular exercise, like walking.

So go outside and mingle with nature as much as possible. Enjoy life!

“he made the point that greenery reflects MORE nir than you get directly from the sun. So I guess a day at the beach is not as good as a day at the park.”
