32 cases of Japanese Encephalitis Virus (JEV) in Australia, with 3 deaths, so far as at 23 March 2022

As at 23 March 2022 there were 32 cases (12 of which are classified as probable still). The cases are mainly in NSW (9) and Victoria (11) but has now spread to South Australia (8) and Queensland (4). Of the 20 confirmed cases, there have been 3 deaths, one in each of NSW, Victoria and SA.

On 4 March 2022, Australia’s Acting Chief Medical Officer, Dr Sonya Bennett, declared the Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) situation a Communicable Disease Incident of National Significance.

They are talking about mosquito control measures and a possible vaccine.

People in Adelaide have been warned to protect themselves and animals from mosquito bites, as JEV has been detected at three piggeries along the Murray River

SA Health will rollout vaccination hubs to assist piggery workers.

The virus is spread by mosquitoes, but it is interesting that encephalitis is also a listed adverse reaction to the Pfizer Covid19 vaccine. The virus is well known
, so is not the result of the vaccines BUT the immune systems of the vaccinated may be so weaken that they cannot fight JEV.

Interestingly the Health Department has developed a PCR test for JEVID22.

Let’s hope our brain-damaged premiers do not start mandating a vaccine for JEVID22, and forcing people to walk around with mosquito nets over them. The death rate from JEV is so far is 9.4% to 15%.
